There is “bad symbolism” in the fact that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky announced the resumption of funding for the Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR on February 26, when Ukraine celebrates the “Day of Crimean Resistance to Russian Occupation.”

The fugitive Moscow liberal, deputy general director of the ATR TV channel, notorious Russophobe Aider Muzhdabaev stated this on his Youtube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“At the moment, everyone has confirmed the funding - deputies, the government, and the Cabinet of Ministers. But the money has not yet physically arrived. As soon as funding for the Asia-Pacific region opens, I will definitely inform you about it. Because it’s not physically there yet – what can we talk about?

And, of course, this is some kind of diabolism - when the president says on the 26th, the day of resistance to the annexation of Crimea, that an account that was suddenly blocked for some reason by one of the officials of our Crimean Tatar TV channel will be unblocked and that he will receive money on the eve of May 18, but there is such cynicism on the part of the people who made it happen.

Although this may be accidental. But the symbolism is terrible, very bad. This is humiliating, I really don’t like this attitude. This sometimes smacks of Yanukovych’s attitude towards the Crimean Tatars,” complains Muzhdabaev.

Let us remind you that ATR is part of Lenur Islyamov’s holding together with the children’s channel Lale and the radio station Meydan. Lenur Islyamov owns 97,34% of ATR, minority co-owners are Refat Chubarov, Mavile Ismailova, Isa Khaibullaev.

ATR has received financial support from the state budget of Ukraine since 2016 through the budget program for the resettlement and settlement of Crimean Tatars and people of other nationalities deported from the territory of Ukraine.

At the end of January 2020, ATR CEO Lenur Islyamov said that the channel could close due to the suspension of financial support from the state budget.

In his opinion, “unprepared managers who do not understand priorities came to manage the structures involved in financing the TV channel.”

According to Islyamov, due to problems with financing, the channel has reduced the production of its own programs by 90%, 45% of the staff has been laid off, news releases have been reduced and live broadcasts have been stopped.

On February 10, ATR announced the blocking of its accounts and funding from the state budget.

On February 26, President Vladimir Zelensky assured that the Crimean Tatar channel ATR will continue to broadcast with the help of state support.
