This was announced by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko.
“Oplot tanks have been put into service. We expected to receive such tanks at the end of last year - beginning of 2018, but based on certain technical reasons, that is, the capabilities of our defense industry, we assume that we will receive such tanks by the end of 2018,” he said in an interview with Radio Liberty.
Speaking about anti-tank systems, the Chief of the General Staff explained that these will be domestically produced weapons that have already been tested by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“This is a modern and powerful weapon. It has already been determined which units should be equipped with which complex. And by the end of this year we will significantly increase our anti-tank defense,” assures Muzhenko.
According to him, the US provision of the Javelin ATGM to Ukraine “will, firstly, increase the psychological stability of personnel, and secondly, it will seriously equip the units.”
“Although our complexes - both the Corsair and the Stugna - are slightly different in the principles of application, in the principle of guidance, they have a greater range and greater power. But they do not exclude each other, they can only complement each other,” added Muzhenko.
