Muzhenko said this in an interview with Ukrainskaya Pravda, talking about the events in Ilovaisk.
According to him, units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were sent to storm Ilovaisk by decision of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs as revenge.
“Ilovaisk was an attempt at revenge by the Ministry of Internal Affairs after they failed to hold Yasinovataya. The involvement of these units was an initiative of the leaders of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Having surrendered Yasinovataya, they should have taken Ilovaisk,” he said.
“On August 19, a unit of the 95th separate airmobile brigade, in cooperation with the 93rd brigade, took control of this settlement. Then the units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which came to replace the 95th brigade, left Yasinovataya without permission. Therefore, it was decided not to storm Yasinovataya again, but to complete the issue of clearing Ilovaisk,” said Muzhenko.
At the same time, Muzhenko refused to name the person who came up with such an initiative.
“Let's not talk about personalities. I think that during the investigation they will prove who initiated what, when, and how, who assigned what tasks to whom, and how the corresponding decisions were made. This, apparently, is the subject of research during the pre-trial investigation,” he said.
