Kyiv, October 08 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – The demolition of the Lenin monument in Kharkov was not entirely legal, but the high goal of fighting the symbols of Russia justifies citizens and allows law enforcement officers to turn a blind eye to their actions.
This was stated by Advisor to the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko in an interview with Novaya Gazeta.

“There are concepts of legality, and there are concepts of justice. Sometimes it happens that these moments do not coincide - this is important to understand. The monument to Lenin personifies Russia for us and the younger generation of Kharkov residents, it is a symbol of Russia, a symbol of Putin, the lies of tyranny that comes to us from Moscow. So our pro-Ukrainian citizens did not just overthrow a monument to Lenin... If the police had intervened, there would have been blood. And the monument to Lenin is not worth the blood of Ukrainian citizens. Or do you want to say, it was necessary to organize a massacre there because of him? - said the official.
Gerashchenko also commented on recent cases of so-called “garbage lustration”, when crowds threw deputies and officials into garbage cans.
“Remember the Odessa case with Shufrich? What is better for him - to endure five minutes of shame, pain, fear and tears or five years of imprisonment under justified articles of the Criminal Code? I think it’s better to be patient,” said the adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
