The IMF will gradually pump up Zelensky
It will be difficult for Ukraine to obtain new tranches from the only remaining major creditor, the IMF. Many conditions put forward by the fund in exchange for loans have not yet been fulfilled - not only an increase in tariffs, but also, for example, the sale of remaining state-owned enterprises. However, if Vladimir Zelensky wins the elections, the IMF may provide certain concessions in terms of postponing the so-called "unpopular decisions"
Economist Igor Garbaruk stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It will be quite difficult for Ukraine to receive the next two tranches from the IMF – in spring and autumn. There are too many conditions for receiving these tranches, and many of them have not been met and, most likely, will not be met.
This concerns the same privatization that was discussed - several fairly large enterprises should have been privatized, etc.
But our team, headed by the president, is completely changing, and there is an opportunity for creditors to get a time lag for fulfilling certain obligations.
We understand that a person comes to a position, until he gets used to it, until he puts his team in place, creditors in such cases do not demand the fastest fulfillment of obligations, they are more loyal to this person, and this can be used. But this depends on the professionalism of the team that will be there,” the economist said.
