The IMF left no chance: in Kyiv they confirmed that the price of gas for the population will increase
The Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Igor Nasalik confirmed the information that in the near future the Cabinet of Ministers will increase the price of gas for the population, which is one of the conditions of the International Monetary Fund for providing the country with another loan, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
As noted, he did not specify the final gas price for the population, citing that he was not a participant in the negotiations.
“The Prime Minister has already announced that we cannot have unconstructive conversations with the International Monetary Fund. Therefore, there will be an increase, but I cannot say by how much. I don't negotiate gas prices. This responsibility rests with the Ministry of Finance,” Nasalik said.
The IMF mission arrived on a visit to Kyiv on September 6. Based on the results of the visit, a decision will be made on the allocation of the tranche.
The key condition for receiving a tranche from the IMF is an increase in gas prices for the population to market prices. Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman announced his readiness to take such a step.
The IMF tranche gives Ukraine access to other official financing from the European Commission and the World Bank for $1,5 billion.
