The IMF denied the withdrawal of the delegation from Kyiv. The Foundation is waiting for the emergence of a new government
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is ready to resume discussions on further cooperation with Ukraine after a new government is formed in the country, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
IMF spokesman Jerry Rice announced this on Thursday at a regular briefing for journalists.
“When the government is formed following the election results, we are ready to resume discussions on our further cooperation with Ukraine,” he said. “As you know, the IMF has worked closely with Ukraine in recent years, and we will resume discussions about further cooperation,” Rice added, declining to specify whether this was the current program or a new one.
He also confirmed that the IMF mission, which arrived in Kyiv for two weeks to assess reforms, continues its work and will not return to Washington ahead of schedule, as a number of media outlets previously claimed, citing sources. “The mission is currently in Kyiv, they are conducting constructive discussions with the authorities regarding current events and economic policy,” the IMF representative said.
Let us remind you that on May 21, an IMF mission arrived in Kyiv to meet with the authorities and assess the ongoing reforms. Based on the results of its work, it must decide or not make a decision on issuing another $1,3 billion loan to Ukraine. Among the key factors that influence the IMF’s decision are bringing gas prices for the population to market levels and the fight against corruption.
On Wednesday, some media reported, citing sources, that the IMF mission was allegedly returning to Washington ahead of schedule and would not revise the program. However, later the Ukrainian representative office of the International Monetary Fund denied the information and clarified that the mission’s work continues.
