Ukraine today still remains one of the most energy-inefficient countries in Europe, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The head of the IMF mission in Ukraine, Josta Ljungman, said this today during the conference “Naftogaz-Gazprom: Energy Security, Gas Transit and European Integration”.

“A lot has been done over the past 5 years, now Naftogaz is a profitable company, but there are still important issues in the energy sector in general and specifically in the gas sector that need to be corrected. One problem is energy inefficiency. Ukraine remains one of the least energy efficient countries in Europe. Another problem is corruption,” he noted.

According to the IMF representative, corruption, in particular, leads to the irrational use of economic resources in the country.
