The IMF took Ukraine hostage, but there is no turning back – Groysman

Ukraine is no longer able to change its previously assumed obligations under the agreement with the International Monetary Fund

Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groysman stated this on air on the ICTV channel.

“The specifics of the negotiations with the IMF speak only of one thing. Anyone who has dealt with this can confirm this. You can only write it down once, then it’s impossible to cross it out, because new conditions will be found, and so on. Therefore, today we are hostages, and in 15 we were hostages,” said the head of the Ukrainian government.

He notes that the IMF points out that the Ukrainian authorities signed agreements with the IMF to pay off debts, and therefore are obliged to continue cooperation with the fund.

“That’s why you and I are all hostages now. You can panic and shout “Guard! Everything is lost!”, but you can take your will into a fist and clearly pragmatically conduct negotiations in order to prevent a default. Sometimes people are asked: what is better, a default or the price of gas? People think: let there be a default. Yes, under no circumstances should this be allowed. Anyone who remembers the 90s knows that this was an instant depreciation of savings, wages, and rising prices,” said Groysman.

Let us note that the IMF has not provided loans to Ukraine for more than a year, demanding that Kyiv fulfill a number of conditions, including, in particular, an increase in gas prices for the population.
