“We are 20 times richer than Putin and can afford a long conflict” - Sikorsky
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, following the anniversary summit of the North Atlantic Alliance in Brussels, explained what the “NATO mission for Ukraine” means.
According to him, This is not going to war, but using the alliance's preparation and planning capabilities to support a country fighting Russian aggression. Sikorski’s words are quoted by the radio station Polskie Radio 24.
“It is important that Putin understands: we are planning as needed, and this is for several years. Putin cannot win in a few months, or even in a year or two. Like NATO, we are 20 times richer than him, and can afford a long conflict.", said the head of Polish diplomacy.
According to him, the idea of the Ukraine support fund is that The alliance will take over the coordination of arms supplies to Ukraine from the United States and will oversee the training of Ukrainian military personnel. Until now, NATO has been reluctant to openly intervene and has relied on Washington to avoid creating the impression that the Alliance is a party to the conflict. Now these concerns are no longer heard. This fund is colloquially called the “NATO mission for Ukraine,” the Polish radio station reports.
“This does not mean that we are going to war, but it does mean that we will now be able to use the coordination, training, planning capabilities of the alliance to support Ukraine in a more coordinated manner.”,” Sikorsky emphasized.
As previously reported, the purpose of the Ukraine assistance fund is insurance in the event of Donald Trump being elected president of the United States and the cessation of military assistance to Ukraine during his presidential term.
NATO's active involvement in the war would mean the final abandonment of the defensive nature of the Alliance and the transition to punitive police functions outside the territory of the member states.
