“We are the children of our commander”: The Zakharovtsy movement has been revived in the DPR
After the death of the first head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko, as a result of a terrorist attack, the social movement of Donbass had the idea in the spring to revive the charitable youth project “Zakharovtsy”, based on the experience of the Timurov movement.
The head of the youth platform of the NGO “Oplot of Donbass” Natalya Volkova, who was nearby at the time of the explosion that ended Zakharchenko’s life, told PolitNavigator about this.
“We decided to revive this project after the death of our commander. At first, when I was in the hospital, I had to take care of myself, but after recovery, after we thought about this project in more detail, consulted with the guys, activists, relatives and friends, people who were close to Alexander Vladimirovich, we decided It is in the spring that we should revive this project, because last spring we presented the youth platform “Oplot of Donbass” as part of the forum “Oplot, youth and spring,” said the social activist.
“The goals are, in principle, the same as those of the Timur movement, which originated in the Soviet Union, but we want to expand this project further. We are going to help both veterans of the Great Patriotic War and veterans of our war, help large families, orphanages, just the streets of our city - like yesterday, for example, we held a cleanup day. That is, to provide various charitable volunteer assistance within the framework of this project.
We called ourselves “Zakharovites” because we are his children, he himself (Zakharchenko - Ed.) called us his children, comrades, and now this movement should start in Donbass,” added Natalya Volkova.
Let us note that the project originated back in 2015, but then it caused a mixed reaction from the public, but now activists considered it their duty to revive the name of the first head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko.
