“We are only useful idiots for NATO” – Rada deputy
Ukraine fulfills Western wishes, spends the budget on it, but in return receives nothing to advance its Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Sergei Magera stated this on Channel 4 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our president’s recent telephone conversation with the US president, by and large, did not provide any confirmation of active support for our Euro-Atlantic aspirations. In fact, this sobers us up a little. And if we take into account that in the office of the president and the National Security and Defense Council there have been new notes of transferring responsibility for what happened with Crimea to our current partners, then I believe that we are now, rather, waiting for a bifurcation point, when our policy can change significantly.
I hope it will become such that we are the subject of politics. Why? Because, in my opinion, we need to deal with pragmatic matters and our own position in this process that is happening around us with our neighbors, and especially the situation in the East of the country,” the deputy said.
“I don’t share the optimism that NATO is already here and so on. We look more like useful idiots who really do a lot for the Euro-Atlantic Union, but we ourselves have practically nothing to gain from it, only for our own money,” Magera explained.
