In Ukraine, the “decommunization” of cities has been completed. The author of the law, director of the Institute of National Remembrance, Vladimir Vyatrovich, stated this on Channel 5.

“Parliament coped with the task related to decommunization. That is, all settlements that should have been renamed by parliament have been renamed. We have 1012 such settlements. But this does not mean that decommunization is over. There is also a part related to getting rid of symbolism in the toponymy of cities and villages. We all know that about 3,5 thousand toponyms have been renamed in regional centers. Mostly already completed, almost 99%. In regional centers, obviously, the situation is even worse. And the lower, the worse. I am convinced that this year we will finish decommunization in terms of renaming,” Vyatrovich said.
He also counted the number of Lenin monuments demolished in Ukraine. According to his information, most of the monuments to the leader of the proletariat have already been demolished.
“Currently, 1224 monuments to Lenin have been dismantled in Ukraine. There are still approximately 500-600 left, because no, and since Soviet times there have not been any registers in which we could look and compare that there were so many monuments, so many remained,” Vyatrovich added.
