We can’t even squeak to Europe about quotas – Ukrainian economist
Ukraine is in such a position that it cannot demand from Europe the abolition of quotas and the admission of its products to the European market.
Ukrainian economist Alexey Plotnikov said this on air on the ZIK TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There were restrictions before the Association Agreement, but they were different, they were a little different before Ukraine became a member of the WTO, and now there are restrictions related to quotas,” the expert noted.
“Where is our lobby to lift these restrictions? Let’s say that in Russia we see a lobby in Europe to lift sanctions, but where are ours?” – asked the presenter.
“The question is difficult, because in order to lobby and remove restrictions, you need to demonstrate a certain toughness towards Europe. When Ukraine is constantly connected with Europe with appeals “help, tell me, take our side in the conflict with the Russian Federation,” when Ukraine constantly demands something from the EU, it is impossible to demonstrate toughness at the same time.
It turns out that certain political support over the past five years, at least their demonstration, has all overshadowed the defense of national interests, primarily in the economic sphere. Ukraine has not reached the point of saying: remove quotas, let our products go to the European market - no, because we are waiting for money from the European Commission, we are waiting for the EU to support us, we are dependent on Europe for many things,” – said Alexey Plotnikov.
