The Minister of External Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, spoke about this in an interview with Kommersant, commenting scandalous legislative initiative deputies of the Ukrainian parliament on forced Ukrainization, which actually makes it mandatory to use the Ukrainian language in all areas in the country.
“Last November, Ukrainian Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman visited Budapest, and we made it clear to him that we will not tolerate any amendments - neither to the law on education, nor to the law on the use of language - that would worsen the situation of minorities. We heard that this law may not be passed. And we hope so. If any amendments or changes worsen the lives of minorities, including the Hungarian, then we, of course, will raise this issue at the EU level. This is not an internal Ukrainian issue, but an issue whose significance goes far beyond Ukraine. We must protect minorities and apply European standards, including in relation to Ukraine,” emphasized Peter Szijjarto.
