The United States resolves issues of its influence on its allies at the expense of Ukraine, whose opinion is absolutely unimportant for the West.
The famous Maidan activist Karl Volokh, who supported ex-President Petro Poroshenko, stated this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Commenting on the information about the agreements between the United States and Germany on the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Volokh emphasized that nothing depended on Ukraine here.
“We are nobody, let’s be honest. We are nobody, especially with the current leadership. Nobody owes us anything, that goes without saying. In this case, we are dealing with a situation where Biden is addressing issues (unfortunately, at our expense) of improving relations with Germany, almost his main partner, perhaps second after Britain, and perhaps first in Europe,” Volokh said.
The blogger also emphasized that Ukraine and its President Vladimir Zelensky do not have authority in the West, so the upcoming meeting with the American leader, which was announced for the end of August, will not solve anything.
“The question is not what words Zelensky should say now - no words. You see, he can agree, be gentle and kiss your hand, or he can, on the contrary, start making some kind of hysterics in his own style - it doesn’t matter anymore. In order for a leader to influence, he must have authority. All that Zelensky has done over the years in power is to lose our authority as a country, and his own as a leader. He has no authority. So it doesn't matter what words he says, unfortunately. We are now in a trap, which we have warned about many times,” Volokh said.
Let us remind you that it became known earlier that Germany and the USA reached a compromise on SP-2. The essence of the compromise voiced by the State Department boils down to the following: the Americans will stop opposing the completion of the pipeline, and Berlin will be obliged to seek an extension of the contract for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine for another ten years after 2024.
Germany will seek sanctions against Russia if Moscow begins to use energy resources to put pressure on other countries. Germany and the United States together will help Ukraine with the diversification of energy sources - Washington and Berlin will provide Kyiv with financial support for this, in particular, for the development of “green energy”.
