“We are below par”: Ukrainians are shocked by Volcker’s negotiations with Belarusians
US State Department Special Representative Kurt Volker held talks with Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei on resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The meeting took place in Munich, where a security conference was held last weekend. Ukrainian experts believe that the negotiations between Volcker and Makei are an alarming signal for the regime of Petro Poroshenko.

Volker in Munich discussed with the head of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry the participation of Minsk in the peacekeeping mission in Donbass. In other words, the issue is resolved. Moreover, formally on the initiative of the United States, and not Russia, which needs Belarusians in its contingent. That’s why someone in Munich made speeches in front of an empty hall and took selfies, and someone resolved issues regarding peacekeepers as part of the “Big Deal,” noted Ukrainian political scientist Dmitry Korneychuk.
