“We find ourselves increasingly isolated”: In Kyiv they realized that something had gone wrong
The year 2017 showed that Ukraine found itself in international isolation - Kyiv was expelled from the newly formed organizations, became involved in a series of international scandals with its neighbors and lost support in the UN. Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on air on the UkrLife channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“This year, the disappointment and irritation that we observed in 15-16 towards Ukraine at the international level, this year it transformed into partial international isolation of our country.
We see this not only in the necklace of conflicts along the perimeter of our borders. We quarreled with Belarus, with Poland, with Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, we quarreled with Armenia, with Kazakhstan. We quarreled with everyone, by and large, we have no partners left on the borders, only competitors and neighbors who are dissatisfied with our internal policy.
This irrational, radicalized domestic policy led to external international isolation and defeats,” Bortnik said.
The political scientist also recalled Ukraine’s foreign policy defeat in international organizations.
“Let's remember the vote in PACE, when our tough position on Agramund led to the re-election of a new leader, even less pro-Ukrainian than the previous one. Moreover, to spite us, they adopted a resolution that allows us to launch a mechanism for Russia’s return to PACE. Let's remember the last UN vote on Crimea. This year, 30 fewer states voted for our resolution than in the 14th year. There is a regression."
In addition, Bortnik emphasized that Ukraine is not a member of any new promising organizations: “Let's look at our relations with key Western partners - the European Union, the United States constantly accuse us of either corruption or very bad deeds. The IMF did not implement its program, only partially for lending, the European Union did not provide us with grants, only partially. We were thrown out of two very important new formats that had already been created in Europe from the point of view of the next 10-20 years. This is, first of all, the Intermarium project, which was created by Poland and Croatia, and the 16+1 project, which is created by China, the new “Silk Road”, Ukraine is not there either. We find ourselves increasingly isolated."
