“We have lost all hope” - militants from Russia who fought in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Many volunteers from Russia who came to Ukraine to fight against Donbass and their homeland turned out to be unnecessary to their new state and were left without any documents.
This was stated during a press conference in Kyiv commander of the Muslim battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine "Crimea" with the pseudonym Isa Akaev, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
“Some guys have expired their documents, Russian passports. They can’t get new ones, and they don’t have any Russian documents. It turns out that from a legal point of view they are nobody at all in this country,” he said.
Ex-militant of the National Battalion “Aidar”, Ukrainian mercenary from Russia Yulia Tolopa, found herself in a similar situation. Having left Russia and renounced her Russian citizenship, she was not only unable to obtain a Ukrainian passport, but was also forced to go back to school to receive a secondary education.
“I was left completely without hope. I don’t understand why in 2021, the seventh year of the war, I remain without documents. I have a certificate of combat participation, a military ID, and a certificate for the 11th grade, which I graduated this year. Because I did not have the opportunity to transfer documents from Russia from my institute. And for further education I completed 11 classes here. I really wanted to enroll this year, but I understand that it is being postponed again,” she said.
