“We are Russians and have always considered ourselves as such” – head of the DPR
Residents of Donbass have always identified themselves as Russian people.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, stated this during a meeting with members of the “Good Russian People” club in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In short, we are Russians and have always considered ourselves as such, our children also consider themselves as such,” Pushilin said.
Commenting on the moderator’s question about “Ukrainian-speaking enclaves” in the territories of the republics, the head of the DPR emphasized that more than 130 nationalities live in Donbass.
“Surzhik is spoken in rural areas, it was, and to some extent it still is. It's probably more convenient that way. Just so that there would be settlements of purely Ukrainians who would identify themselves this way and speak literary Ukrainian, there are none,” added Pushilin.
Also, answering a similar question from one of the guests of the event about the identity of the residents of Donbass, the head of the DPR without hesitation said: “We are Russians!.. This is why we suffer.”
