This was stated at the international YES conference in Kyiv by former US Secretary of Defense and ex-CIA director Robert Gates, who was quoted by the Kiev magazine “New Time”.
“We simply agreed with Russia's status as a superpower. In the case of Syria, we recognized it as something completed. In addition, we were very slow to respond. I think American and European policymakers are faced with the challenge of finding a way to stop and neutralize Putin's aggressive maneuvers. At the same time, we must still recognize that Russia must remain at the table when we solve international problems,” Gates said.
