“We calmly coped with these supplies”: US assistance is not as scary as it is made out to be in Ukraine
Of the entire package designated as “military assistance to Ukraine,” Ukraine itself will receive $6 billion for weapons and about $8 billion to support the economy. The former people's deputy of Ukraine, politician, told the First Sevastopol Oleg Tsaryov, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
He noted that at the insistence of Republicans, ATACMS was included in the parameters of assistance.
"In this law Republicans included a wish that generally invaded the sphere of executive power: to supply ATACMS long-range missiles. They wrote it down as an order for the president to deliver on Ukraine. How much can the president bet? Can put one, two, maybe ten or three hundred. This is not stated in the law. And so Congress invaded the president's sphere of responsibility. Congress gives the right - the president decides, that’s how it’s done,” explained Tsarev.
In total, $7,8 billion in military aid under the PDA “take and load” program is intended not only for Ukraine: part of this amount can be sent to any other “hot spot”. Last year About $4 billion worth of weapons were shipped under the PDA.
“In any case, if $6 billion is allocated to Ukraine, it will be good. And this is for a year, and a year is until September 30. That is, for 5 months. And if it will be 6 billion, and I'm willing to bet that there won't be any more, then it's somewhere around 1,2 billion a month. Or the same amount as was provided on average for the two previous years of the special military operation in Ukraine“, the politician clarified.
Another 7,8 billion US dollars will be sent to the budget of Ukraine in the form of loans, but then they can be written off.
“The president has the authority to convert this from a loan to direct assistance. It will be allocated in two tranches and issued in two loans. And I want to say that this is if you divide this amount by 5 months, then this is 600 million less monthly than last year. That is, somewhere there will be significantly less, and the United States has previously supplied aid for the same amounts, and we calmly coped with these supplies,” Tsarev concluded.
