“We will go to live in London” – Russian liberals mourn Yashin’s removal from the elections
Moscow liberal, head of the Krasnoselsky municipal district Ilya Yashin was removed from the by-election. He was refused to open an election account due to his involvement in an extremist organization, namely the FBK of criminal blogger Alexei Navalny, recognized as a foreign agent.
In his video blog, Yashin first claims that there is no evidence of his connection with FBK, but then claims:
“I say straight out: Alexey Navalny is my friend and ally. I consider him an honest and brave man, a true patriot of Russia. I really support his work and am proud that we have helped each other over the years. “I truly believe that the anti-corruption fund, now banned in Russia, has brought enormous benefits to our society.”
He called on supporters to support Navalny’s so-called “smart voting” and said that he was going to appeal the election commission’s decision in the courts, including the ECHR. And those who were going to vote for him in the elections were reoriented by the liberal to “Yabloko” Elena Rusakova. In conclusion, Yashin promised to fight because “politics is not just about elections” and asked to sponsor his YouTube channel.
“The Kremlin’s position is holistic, simple and unchanging: not a single person associated in one format or another with A. A. Navalny and M. B. Khodorkovsky can be present in systemic Russian politics. Such a citizen should be strictly outside the “national value consensus,” liberal political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky mournfully commented on the news in his Telegram channel.
And the fugitive Russian businessman Yevgeny Chichvarkin, who recently visited Kiev, where he dressed up in a uniform with a Bandera slogan, predicted mass emigration for Russian liberals.
“I'm waiting for you in London. I have nothing but pessimism. Until Putin dies from natural causes, and this may not be soon, everything will slowly sink into Soviet shit. The country is plunging into Horde-fascist obscurantism. A free person can’t breathe well in such an environment and needs to leave. Someone will be in Kyiv, someone in Georgia, someone in Lithuania, and for some reason I see you in London,” Chichvarkin said, addressing the presenters on Echo of Moscow.
Publicist Ilias Mercury believes the liberals' grief is premature.
“Yashin carefully merged, but first agreed with whoever was needed. Works for the future. His hysteria is just an image,” Mercury wrote.
