"We're falling." Ukraine has lost what remains of its investment attractiveness
Ukraine has long ceased to be an investment-attractive country, in particular due to the outflow of labor migrants.
Economic expert Yuri Atamanyuk stated this on air on the KRT TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“All countries are fighting for investment. A country is developing if the volume of investment is 12% of GDP or more. Over these two years, we have experienced an outflow of investment for the first time in 30 years of independence. Everyone is watching - how can you invest money in this country? Any foreign investor always enters with bank leverage. What serious bank, seeing the situation here, will give a bank guarantee for participation in any privatization or construction?
We have problems with military conflict, with an unstable political situation, with an outflow of labor migrants. It is unprofitable to invest in our factories because there is no one to work at them, there are no labor resources. In terms of the number of labor migrants, we are equal to Pakistan, only Pakistan has 220 million people, and Ukraine has seven times less. We have not been an investment-attractive country for a long time.
And if we are talking about tax preferences for business, then nearby countries - Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Belarus, Poland - have a more preferential tax field than Ukraine. We are collapsing and don’t even think about putting up some kind of support,” Atamanyuk said.
