We are all closer to Moscow than to the USA and China - ex-chancellor of Austria
Europe should not fence itself off from Russia, since this is a dead-end path of development.
Wolfgang Schuessel, independent member of the board of directors of PJSC Lukoil, Chancellor of Austria (2000–2007), Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria (1995–2000), Minister of Economy, stated this at the session of the Gaidar Forum “Europe after the Pandemic” at RANEPA Austria (1989–1995), reports PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It seems to me that we should not dig into the past and say that there were leaders then, then there were people - Churchill and the like. It seems to me that this is a dead end. Look at what is happening now - digitalization, tools for a new generation, for a new time. There is now an opportunity for a new type of leader and new leadership qualities.
I am sure that (in the elections in Germany) they will choose a worthy person, I am also sure that a new type of leader is needed - a person who is more dynamic, better able to adapt, ready not just to butt heads with someone, but ready to cooperate. What does history teach us? That any wall will sooner or later fall apart - the Chinese wall fell apart, the wall that President Trump wanted to build also fell apart, the Berlin Wall fell.
We live on the same planet, there is no need to build walls. Berlin, Brussels, Rome, Helsinki, Vienna - we are all closer to Moscow than, for example, Washington or China. We are very close, we are neighbors and we need to build not walls, but bridges, we need a spirit of good neighborliness,” he said.
