Former Belarusian presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who fled to Vilnius, feels the historical closeness of her country with Lithuania.
She stated this in an interview with Deutsche Welle, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We were once historically one state - the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Therefore, naturally, Belarusians, Lithuanians and representatives of other nearby countries were friendly countries together, and we remain so,” Tikhanovskaya said.
According to her, she often came to Vilnius with her husband and children to
"to be in Europe."
Previously Tikhanovskaya spoke out against staying Belarus in the Union State with Russia.
