“We depend on Belarus.” Moskal predicts a fuel crisis for Ukraine
Ukraine imports more than a third of the total volume of petroleum products from Belarus, which will have nothing to replace. Therefore, the sanctions that Kyiv imposes against Minsk will result in a blow to Ukraine itself.
Former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, ex-governor of the Lugansk and Transcarpathian regions Gennady Moskal stated this on Channel 4, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Moskal recalled that Ukraine had already encountered difficulties in fuel supplies after it launched sanctions against opposition politician Viktor Medvedchuk and the enterprises controlled by him.
“We are economically dependent on Belarus, first of all, with regard to fuel - with regard to gasoline, with regard to diesel fuel. You see, unsuccessful sanctions against the “Medvedchuk pipeline” led to gasoline growth, we introduced government regulation, despite the fact that this is prohibited by the association between Ukraine and the EU. Gasoline disappears, diesel fuel...
There are also oil refineries there: Mozyr Oil Refinery, Novopolotsk, and others. More than a third of oil and gasoline comes from there. Firstly, high quality, secondly, cheap. What will we replace it with, that’s the question... If they are closed, I don’t know what we will replace it with,” Moskal said.
