Meat is becoming increasingly inaccessible to Ukrainians
The increase in average wages advertised by the Ukrainian authorities is “eaten up” by inflation - income allows citizens to buy much less meat products than before.
Alexey Doroshenko, General Director of the Ukrainian Association of Retail Chain Suppliers, reported this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“With the average salary, which has been growing over the past year, you can buy more of all food products with the exception of the meat group, in which we included all types of meat and eggs, animal proteins.
It turned out that even with an increase in average wages of more than 20%, you can afford 2% less in the meat group. This speaks to why we are buying less and less meat - it is unaffordable not only for people who earn the minimum wage, but also for those who earn the average wage.
But, excuse me, 30% of people in our country receive the minimum wage and only about 30-40% receive the average wage. Another 30% live on social benefits – there’s no time for meat anymore,” said the market expert.
