This information was aired on Channel 5 during coverage of the Rubezh-2016 military exercises conducted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“They hit the target at a distance of more than forty kilometers,” noted the Channel 5 journalist.
“Now the artillerymen are “hone their skills” by firing from “Pions” and 152-mm howitzers “Msta-B” at a training ground near Kiev, and, as Channel 5 claims, they are ready at any moment to leave for the Donbass to “stop enemy with well-aimed shots." The objective of the exercise is to save ammunition, “not to reduce the degree of fire damage that should be achieved when suppressing or destroying a target,” the story says.
One of the senior officers of the 40th artillery brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces participating in the exercises told the channel that the basics of artillery shooting “can really be learned in a few days” and commanding an artillery crew is not difficult at all.
Let us note that, in accordance with the Minsk agreements, the Pion self-propelled guns are prohibited weapons of 203 mm caliber and must be withdrawn from the demarcation line to a distance of at least 50 km.
