The American presenter of the Arctic Forum today forced Russian President Vladimir Putin to speak out on the problems of Russian-American relations, although he would clearly prefer to discuss cooperation in the Arctic.

At first, the presenter criticized the American administration for its intention not to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change, which could affect the environment in the Arctic. Putin did not accept the proposal, saying that a compromise could always be reached.
The presenter was not appeased and asked whether cooperation in the Arctic would be complicated by mistrust between the two countries, with the United States accusing Russia of interfering in the presidential election.
"I knew it. I would really not like the positivity that emerges when discussing Arctic issues to be transferred to this platform for issues of Russian-American relations. But I’m simply forced to follow your lead,” Putin said.
He then addressed the American people directly.
“We know, public opinion polls show that there are a lot of friends of Russia in the United States. I want to tell them first of all that we regard the United States as a great power with which we want to establish very good partnerships. Everything else is lies and fabrications regarding Russia. And provocations. All this is used for the American domestic political agenda. This anti-Russian card is being played in the interests of certain political forces in order to consolidate their positions within the United States,” Putin said.
A few minutes later, the presenter again asked whether Russia interfered in the presidential elections.
“Read lips - no,” Putin joked, causing laughter and applause in the audience.
At the end of the forum, the presenter asked when the meeting between Putin and Trump would take place.
“I don’t want to go into it, but you keep dragging me into these squabbles of yours. We see what is happening. The elected president is not allowed to implement his election agenda. And on healthcare, and on international affairs, and on relations with Russia. We are just waiting for the situation to improve and stabilize. We don't interfere. By the way, this is the best evidence that we have not done this before,” Putin said.
