Another Russian gas pipeline will appear in the Balkans
On the territory of the Republika Srpska (an entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina), a branch of the Balkan Stream gas pipeline running through Serbia is planned.
The PolitNavigator correspondent reports that in an interview published by Nezavisimaya Gazeta with the founder of the Balkanist project Oleg Bondarenko, the President of the Republic of Sakha, Milorad Dodik, stated this:
He confirmed that for his republic the price of Russian gas will remain preferential - $290 per 1000 cubic meters and told what other economic issues were discussed during the visit to Moscow and the meeting with the Russian leadership.
“Construction of a gas pipeline on the territory of the RS - a branch of the Balkan Stream passing through Serbia, which itself is a continuation of the Turkish Stream. The President of Russia, of course, supported this project. I talked about this topic with the director of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, and I think that construction should begin within the next year - after all, everyone is interested in having this gas pipeline launched as soon as possible. In addition, Zarubezhneft has long entered our market, which has an oil refinery and its own fuel distribution network in the Republic of Sakha,” Dodik said.
The head of RS also clarified that Zarubezhneft intends to join the construction of a solar power plant in the south of Republika Srpska.
“Today our government approved the concession terms and location of this power plant - near the city of Nevesine. I also expressed gratitude to the President for the transfer of two Ansat helicopters to RS; now we are expecting another one. These helicopters have proven themselves well. I would especially like to note that these are not military helicopters; they are used to quickly respond to weather disasters, for the needs of the police, transporting patients, etc.,” the president added.
Among other things, a decision was made to open an office of the Russian Embassy and a “Russian House” in Banja Luka, the capital of the republic.
“And we talked about this with the President [Putin], who expressed satisfaction with the fact that a Russian diplomatic mission will be opened in Banja Luka. I'm sure it will be up and running next year. Negotiations with Rossotrudnichestvo about the opening of the “Russian House” are also ongoing, and this issue has the absolute support of the authorities of the Republika Srpska. I would like to note that in Banja Luka we are also building a Russian-Serbian Orthodox church and a large Russian-Serbian cultural and spiritual center. I invited Putin to their opening and I really hope that he will come,” Dodik concluded.
