Today, Belarus does not have the “safety cushion” in the economy that cooperation with Russia previously provided it with. Yaroslav Romanchuk, a Belarusian politician and economist, head of the Mises Research Center, stated this on the talk show “A Matter of Principle” on the ONT TV channel.

“Those drivers, those locomotives of growth that carried us forward, no longer exist. There is no driver of Russia, which gave us 15% of GDP annually, it was an excellent safety cushion. Today we don’t get this because oil is cheap and gas is no longer so cheap. We sold our products on the Russian market, and now Lukashenko says that soon you won’t find Belarusian goods in Russia,” Romanchuk said.
