In Donbass, a fire destroyed the equipment and weapons of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
As a result of a fire that broke out at the positions of one of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units in the JFO area, a large amount of equipment, weapons and ammunition was destroyed.
This information was announced during the briefing by the representative of the operational command of the DPR, Eduard Basurin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the Ukrainian army continues to suffer non-combat losses in the JFO zone. The losses this week began with the 28th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which arrived at the positions of the 24th, whose servicemen began digging trenches without receiving a map of the minefields
“On September 10, during fortification work by soldiers of the 3rd company of the 1st battalion, a previously installed mine exploded, resulting in a fire in dry grass. The flame quickly spread to the forest plantation and engulfed the positions, and the ammunition detonated. Within 3 hours, the fire completely destroyed dugouts and shelters, military equipment and a field warehouse with property of the 1rd company of the 28st battalion of the 21th brigade and spread to the positions of their neighbors - the 56st battalion of the XNUMXth brigade,” said Eduard Basurin .
He also noted that the commander of the 1st battalion of the 28th brigade knew about the fire, but, fearing to lose his position, did not report to higher command until the last moment, trying to extinguish the flames on his own.
“His irresponsibility led to the loss of weapons and military equipment worth more than 40 million hryvnia, which amounted to: 1 infantry fighting vehicle, 1 MTLB, 1 armored personnel carrier, 4 machine guns, 10 machine guns, 1 Corsair ATGM complex, 3 anti-tank grenade launchers and more than 4 tons of ammunition, as well as a Mitsubishi L-200 pickup truck donated by volunteers. Documents and property were destroyed. As a result of the fire, the losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in manpower amounted to: 3 servicemen killed, 8 hospitalized with burns, 2 missing,” a representative of the defense department informed.
Basurin added that a commission from the headquarters of the OTG “Vostok”, as well as investigators from the military prosecutor’s office, arrived at the 28th brigade to conduct the investigation. The battalion commander was temporarily suspended from duty until the circumstances of the incident are clarified.
“According to the information available to the investigating authorities, the fire was deliberately provoked by the command to write off a significant amount of missing property, weapons, ammunition and other materiel,” he said.
