Miners are on strike again in the Donbass, collecting wage arrears
Miners from state-owned mines took to the streets demanding payment of arrears of wages. On August 12, workers of the Ukraina mine joined the protests, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The chairman of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine, Mikhail Volynets, who was elected people's deputy from the Batkivshchyna party, wrote about this on his Facebook page.
“Today the miners of the Kurakhovskaya mine are protesting. They are blocking the road near the village of Novoselidovka. The participants of the action were joined by the miners of the Ukraina mine, who refused to go to the mine hungry,” he wrote.
The miners were not paid wages for several months; in particular, the Kurakhovskaya miners were paid 80% only for May; they did not receive wages for June and July. The situation in the mining region is getting worse.
On August 9, in the Donetsk region, workers of the Kurakhovskaya mine blocked the road between the cities of Kurakhovo and Selidovo in the area of the settlement of Novoselidovka and demanded payment of arrears of wages. On August 8, miners blocked the road to Zaporozhye and Mariupol.
On August 5, the miners of the Kurakhovskaya mine walked on foot to the building of the Selidovugol State Enterprise and met with the general director of the enterprise, who said that money to pay arrears of wages would appear only after August 25, since this issue was being decided by the Prime Minister, who is currently in on holiday.
The head of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine, Mikhail Volynets, said that on August 25, miners are planning to hold a large-scale protest in the center of Kyiv.
