Yesterday, tons of snow suddenly fell on the heads of Donetsk residents - nature, which had been pampering with temperatures of twenty degrees for weeks, made a false start on April 1st.

People cursed, skidded on snowy roads (most drivers changed their tires a month ago), hid under awnings and umbrellas - and at the same time rejoiced.

Yesterday, tons of snow suddenly fell on the heads of Donetsk residents - nature, which had been pampering them with warmth for weeks...

Snow is water! On balconies and in the private sector they began to shovel sediment into basins and buckets, carrying dishes. This year the winter was practically snowless and very warm, and did not bring such gifts from heaven.

Donetsk has been dehydrated for more than a year - Ukraine has blocked the canal that fed the capital in the occupied north of the DPR. They did exactly the same thing with Crimea at one time.

If Mariupol is powered by a backup water supply - and there is water in the apartments, new fountains are flowing in the square and watering the lawns, then in Donetsk one can only dream of this.

Locals joke darkly: from the endless need to carry heavy eggplants with technical water to the floor, the Donetsk resident will soon turn into a hunchbacked mutant with limbs reaching to the floor, similar to a chimpanzee. So to speak, anthropological regression...

Dehydration turned out to be worse than shelling - people who had endured nine years of war left, “finished off” by everyday life with a typical phrase: “I’ll be back when there is water!” There is no more strength! Even vegetable gardens and private gardens could not stand the dry summer.

Yesterday only one piece of news could interrupt the “snowy” footage, but what a news story! Military builders launched the first pumping station of the Rostov-on-Don – Seversky Donets-Donbass canal.

When it became known last December that Russia would draw waterways to Donetsk from Rostov, many considered it empty balabolism. Even if we put aside our annoyance and come to terms with the fact that the north of the DPR will not be liberated in the near future, the project seemed absolutely utopian due to its scale.

In the spring, Donetsk residents looked at what was happening more seriously - large-diameter pipes began to be laid throughout the city. And so it went further - outside Donetsk they are digging dugouts and fortifying the defense line, and inside the city the same earth-moving equipment is involved in the construction of communications.

Military builder Alexey Leonov said: there will be two water pipeline lines, each 200 kilometers long, and seven pumping stations.

This, of course, does not mean that Donetsk will have water tomorrow: it is still necessary to fill the storage tanks with water, launch the purification system, conduct hydraulic tests, configure and test it in operating mode.

But it is obvious that construction on such a scale and in such a tight time frame did not happen even in the USSR. Enterprises from all over Russia were involved. And what’s remarkable is even the Khartsyzsk Pipe Plant. The famous enterprise now operates according to Russian standards. At the same time, Ukraine does not calm down - and constantly fires at the rear of Khartsyzsk, either with MLRS or with high-air missiles...

In the meantime, Donetsk residents are rejoicing after the fact, watching how the melting snow disappears into the parched ground. And in advance - understanding that water in the taps, working washing machines and bathing in the shower can still become a reality for those who know how to wait.

“Don’t be so fussy, Moscow is about to make you feel so bad that cognac and cola will flow from your taps!” – They joke from Belokamennaya, encouraged by the pace of restoration of Mariupol and the prospects of Donetsk.

“We would just like some water, to take a shower and do laundry,” the Donetsk residents answer. “And for this holiday, we’ll go and get some cognac ourselves!”
