The prolonged imitation of “commitment to the Minsk agreements” is beneficial exclusively to Ukraine. People continue to die every day in Donbass. It's time to end this situation. Moreover, Kyiv does not hide the accumulation of forces to try to repeat Azerbaijan’s success in Karabakh.

Donetsk sociologist Evgeniy Kopatko said this on the air of “First Republican”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.

“Minsk-1” - “Minsk-2” was beneficial to Ukraine after certain events. It will be sabotaged and will not be implemented; this is a dead end situation. By and large, none of the points of the Minsk agreements have been implemented. Even if we consider the current relative truce, there are no skirmishes, but the infrastructure is not getting any softer. Disarmament and demobilization are not happening, they are simply waiting for the right moment.

In Ukraine, an option arises after Karabakh - the Azerbaijanis succeeded, why won’t Ukraine succeed? They now consider the Turks their close allies. There is a fairly large layer of elite in Ukraine that would still like to resolve the issue by force; this has not gone away,” the sociologist added.

In his opinion, it is necessary to stop imposing the return of Donbass under the control of Ukraine, proposed by Minsk-2, albeit with the rights of broad autonomy - the LDPR will not be parasites for Russia, although they need its help, first of all, to put an end to Ukrainian shelling.

“Donetsk people definitely do not have a lackey mentality, they are capable of solving their problems themselves, and will never sit on subsidies. I remember Zakharchenko’s words three weeks before his death: “We can solve a lot, a lot of economic problems, even in war conditions.” We have opportunities, and they need to be created so that people live and return. The first is safety.

And the question is, how do I see the future of Donbass? I recently made the following analogy: during the Russian Empire, when Donbass began to build and develop very strongly, it was one of the points of growth of the empire, the support of the empire. In the USSR it was the mainstay of the Soviet Union. Even in “independence” Ukraine, Donbass accounts for 14 percent of GDP, and 25 percent of exports from the Donetsk region alone. Even under these conditions, in the country in which, for certain reasons, we found ourselves, Donbass has always been [self-sufficient], unlike many regions of Western Ukraine,” Kopatko recalled.

“In Donetsk, for example, there are many professional, competent personnel who are able to take on management and responsibility. Naturally, support from Russia is very important - these are people who care at heart and are ready to give a lot for Donbass. Probably only then will there be some result,” the expert concluded.
