On Dozhd, liberals squabbled among themselves and praised Putin
The Russian TV channel Dozhd hosted a debate between opposition politician Alexei Navalny and famous designer Artemy Lebedev.
This was preceded by a public discussion on the Internet. Lebedev accused Navalny, who announced his intention to run for president of Russia, of populism. In response, Navalny accused Lebedev of participating in opaque state competitions.

The live debate, hosted by Ksenia Sobchak, did not bring anything new to the positions of the parties. The Dozhd audience gave 70% of the votes to Navalny.
Something else is more interesting. Both opponents, who had previously criticized the government, considered it their duty to praise Russian President Vladimir Putin.
First, the presenter asked Navalny to say at least something good about one of the representatives of the Russian government in order to prove that he is not only engaged in criticism.
“I will praise one person, and that will be enough for you. I praise Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Because in the period from 2000 to 2004 he carried out land reform and tax reform. He did a lot of great things to help the financial market grow. I have been in opposition to Putin from the very beginning, but I cannot deny that he has done a lot of good things,” Navalny said.
After some time, Sobchak tried to force Lebedev to admit that in the current situation, the optimal presidential candidate for a person of his views is Navalny. The designer did not accept the submission.
“If Sobyanin decided to run, he would be a good president. And Putin even more so. I see how his teams of consultants changed. Now I have no complaints about his team. He hasn’t done much of what I expect, but you can live normally in the country,” Lebedev said.
