Ukrainian-Romanian exercises “according to NATO standards” are taking place on the Danube
The first Ukrainian-Romanian exercise “Riverine” takes place lower on the Danube.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, their goal is to practice joint actions of multinational boat tactical groups to increase their compatibility and capabilities for conducting security operations on the Danube River, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
For three days, Ukrainian and Romanian military sailors and border guards will practice tactical elements according to NATO standards as part of multinational boat tactical groups and will increase the compatibility of boats of the navies and coast guards of the two countries on the issues of illuminating the surface situation on the Danube River, tactical maneuvering and conducting inspection operations. The training will take place on the section of the Danube River from Izmail (Ukraine) to Braila (Romania) and will last until September 6, 2018.
Representatives of the command of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the Navy and Coast Guard of Romania, as well as government authorities attended the opening ceremony of the maneuvers.
“We are conducting such bilateral Ukrainian-Romanian exercises “Riverine - 2018” for the first time. They are aimed at strengthening regional security and improving interaction between the fleets of Ukraine and Romania,” said Captain 1st Rank Andrey Kurylenko, deputy head of the combat training department of the Ukrainian Navy Command. He also stated that the event is aimed at maintaining stability in the region and will allow “high-quality training of forces and the introduction of standards of interaction between military sailors of both countries.”
