There is no hope for Europe - Trump is being called to Serbia to curb the Kosovars
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic extended an invitation to Donald Trump to visit Serbia in order to convince the United States to influence its satellites - representatives of the Albanian separatist regime in Kosovo. This happened at the international forum “Globsec 2019” in Bratislava, where Vucic met with representatives of the American administration.
Observers regard the invitation voiced by Vucic as a reaction to the failure of EU leaders, who for a long time have not been able to influence the position of Pristina and achieve the abolition of duties on Serbian goods, which have placed the Slavic enclaves of the region in a position of economic blockade.
The forum in Bratislava was another confirmation of this.
Vučić held a number of meetings at the Globsec 2019 forum, and also took part in the panel discussion “Introduction to the essence of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.” The President of Montenegro, Milo Djukanovic, and the head of the Kosovar government, Hashim Thaci, were also present.
President Vucic began his speech by reflecting on the current situation in Kosovo:
“For Thaça, all of Kosovo belongs to the Albanians, although according to the Serbian Constitution, the entire territory of Kosovo belongs to Serbia. Opinion in the world is divided on the Kosovo issue. We must find a solution. Belgrade, Pristina, and the whole world must make a compromise decision. This is the most important message - there must be a compromise solution. We all have to make concessions,” he said.
“When we talk about these duties, I have to say one thing. I am not such a big politician as politicians from Germany, America... But I am committed to everything that belongs to the Serbian people. I am interested in the fact that Serbian citizens are losing out due to the fees imposed by Pristina. It’s time to cancel the tariffs and start with any dialogue,” Vucic added.
“According to the Serbian Constitution, the entire territory of Kosovo and Metohija belongs to the Serbs, and Thaci says that our policy towards Kosmet was aggressive. We were just doing our job, we made sure that Kosovo was not included in Interpol, was not included in UNESCO. We did not commit any violence, especially against the people of Kosovo, we just did our job. The only problem is that we do not agree with Thaci that Kosovo is an independent state,” the Serbian president emphasized.
When asked by the moderator whether Serbia is ready to return to negotiations, Vucic replied: “Right now. The only condition is the abolition of the tax, and then you can agree on anything.”
As part of the discussion, the conversation turned to Russia and its role in the entire problem of Kosovo and Metohija. The Serbian President commented: “We have good relations with Russia, that’s all. And we will always have good relations with Russia. I have a story for everyone, both for Russia and for European politicians. Serbia is an independent country that wants to join the European Union, but at the same time we have good relations with our eastern partner,” Vucic said.
The Serbian leader, in a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, repeated that to overcome the impasse, Pristina must eliminate taxes on goods produced in central Serbia, and once again asked the chancellor for help.
Aleksandar Vucic called on Chancellor Merkel to visit Serbia again, the presidential press service said in a statement.
The fact that there is no point in relying on Europe anymore was confirmed, in particular, by Serbian politicians from Kosovo. Representatives of the Serbian List party, which won the elections in the region, met in Berlin with Matthias Lutenberg, adviser to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
As a result, they received an offer from German politicians to abandon Belgrade and Serbia and begin to pursue an autonomous policy, Informer reports.
“German officials asked the Serbian List to lead, as they say, an independent policy in Kosovo. In other words, they were told that it would be useful to distance themselves from official Belgrade. Representatives of the Serbs from Kosovo, of course, decisively rejected this request,” a diplomat who insisted on anonymity recounted the essence of the negotiations to the publication.
“When asked about the relationship between the Serbian List and Belgrade, political representatives of the Serbs from Kosovo clearly answered that these relations were natural and always had communication at the highest level. Aleksandar Vučić, the President of Serbia, maintains constant communication with us because he wants to understand that the decisions taken contribute to the improvement of the situation of the Serbian people in Kosovo. That is why the trust of the Serbs in Kosovo, which President Vučić enjoys, is the greatest,” the party said.
