The bas-relief of Stalin will be returned to the facade of the Volgograd Medical University
Volgograd State Medical University of the Russian Ministry of Health, among other things, will return the bas-relief of Stalin to its facade as part of the restoration of the historical appearance of the building.
This was reported on the official website of the university, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The bas-relief was removed during the time of Khrushchev, and three profiles remained on the building: Marx, Engels and Lenin.
“Damage to the decorative elements of the facade will be repaired. It is also planned to replace the covering of the cornice, restore the lost balustrade and the outline of the bust of Joseph Stalin on the surface of the facade,” the report says.
According to the press secretary of the university, Dmitry Trofimov, a restoration project for the building was created in 2019, then the architect Sergei Sena proposed drawing the outline of a bas-relief of Stalin with a commemorative plaque. The project has passed the examination.
“We are talking specifically about the restoration of a historical building of an architectural monument - giving it its original appearance. The bas-relief of Stalin is part of the artistic plan of the architects Levitan and Simbirtsev, realized in 1953, just like the inscription “Stalin” on the open books of the capitals of the columns,” RIA Novosti quotes Trofimov.
