At the Khodorkovsky forum they complained that Russia was not subject to any sanctions
Soon, in the West, current politicians will be replaced by those who were not “traumatized” by the departure of Crimea to Russia and the war in Donbass, and then sanctions from Russia will be lifted.
Russian liberal political scientist Stanislav Belkovsky said this during a lecture at the Open Russia forum, financed by fugitive oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to him, in its current state, Russia can exist as long as it wants, and President Vladimir Putin will wait until the Western elites change.
“The Russian people do not feel the need for either democracy or bourgeois benefits, they are absolutely patient and enduring, therefore these people can withstand the hardships associated with sanctions and self-isolation of Russia. No one can attack us, because nuclear weapons cannot be wasted. You can exist in this state indefinitely because in Russia there is no democracy, no political institutions, no mechanisms for the legal change of power, while everything is there in the West.
And the Western voter will remove the current generation of politicians and bring in some new one, who will no longer be traumatized by the annexation of Crimea and the war in Ukraine, and who will be able to start the conversation from scratch,” Belkovsky said.
He also emphasized that in the West, the current leadership is already tired of Ukrainian politicians, their corruption and inability to carry out reforms.
“If we talk about whether it is possible to lift Western sanctions without resolving Ukrainian issues, yes, it is possible. In this sense, Putin is not entirely wrong when he argues that over time, the value of both the Crimean issue and the east of Ukraine for the West will decrease. It is still declining.
It is becoming increasingly clear that Crimea will not return to Ukraine, that the frozen conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions still has decades to live - Transnistria has existed unrecognized for 26 years, Northern Cyprus has existed for 44 years, there are more such examples... Naturally, Putin is right the fact that the West is growing tired of Ukraine due to the fact that the new Ukrainian government turned out to be just as corrupt as its predecessor,” Belkovsky concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, the remnants of Ukraine recognize Crimea Russian.
