At the forum in Donetsk they called for officially recording the concepts of Russianness and Novorossiya
For the further effective development of Russian unity, it is necessary to clearly establish that the Russian is the triune Russian people, Great Russians, Little Russians and Belarusians, and also to return the word Novorossiya, for which repressions are actually envisaged in Ukraine, to the category of an academic historical term.
This was stated in Donetsk at the forum “Unity of Russians: Protection of Rights and Freedoms” by ex-deputy of the Odessa City Council, journalist Alexander Vasiliev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are talking about the unity of Russians, about helping the Russians who find themselves on the wrong front line. We are a little lacking in the definition of Russianness. Here, my last name is Vasiliev, but we have Chalenko here. He is not Russian? Or, for example, Denis Pushilin, this is a Russian surname, but the first head of the DPR, he is Alexander Zakharchenko. He is not Russian? Now, we must say that the Russian is the triune Russian people, Great Russians, Little Russians and Belarusians. It should be written down which Russians we help,” the Odessa resident suggested.
He also drew attention to the fact that it is no coincidence that Russians live unevenly on the territory of Ukraine.
“They live compactly in areas commonly called the Southeast. But this region has a historical, not geographical name, which today, unfortunately, has only been heard a few times, this is the territory of Novorossiya.
That is, Russians live compactly as part of the modern Ukrainian state in the historical region of Novorossiya. And this should be recorded in the same way, because for this one word in Ukraine, the current regime is simply persecuting people for the mere use of this completely academic historical and actual political term,” Vasilyev added.
“I support you in the need to define the concept of what kind of Russians we are protecting, what category of people they are,” DPR People’s Council deputy Elena Shishkina supported the speaker. – But let me disagree with you that Russians are three nationalities, but what if he is a Georgian who shares the values of the Russian world, who grew up on our moral values? There’s a very fine line here – not to slip into nationalism.”
“You see, if there is a Georgian who says that he is not Georgian, but Russian, that he defines himself as Russian, then we will, of course, define him that way. But you won’t point to the territory where such “Georgians”, who are not Georgians, but Russians, predominated as a population,” the journalist argued.
“And I point out to you, I can give numbers and a lot of data, that people like Russians quantitatively predominate in the region of Novorossiya. Therefore, there is no need to be afraid of the word “nationalism” here, because I will remind you that according to the “Russian Donbass” doctrine, the DPR is a Russian national state. No one died from this, no Georgian who shares our values clutched his heart and fell dead. Therefore, I appeal to this document,” Vasiliev explained.
