Medvedchuk’s channel promises the return of Crimea to Ukraine
Crimea will “return to Ukraine” in a historical perspective. Konstantin Grishchenko, who held the positions of ambassador in Moscow and head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, stated this on air on the First Independent TV channel, which is part of Viktor Medvedchuk’s pool, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Grishchenko repeated the thesis of Ukrainian nationalists that it is necessary to treat Crimea as the West once treated the Baltic republics - it did not recognize joining the USSR.
“Crimea will return to Ukraine in a historical perspective. Or rather, he may return, but when this may be, when the preconditions for the return of Crimea are in place, it will be extremely difficult to say now, since we have another priority. Of course, this is a question of Donbass, a question of war, cessation. Even the very possibility that we could be drawn into serious military action.
Therefore, the parallel with what should be the position of Ukraine is the position of the United States and Great Britain regarding the Baltic countries. They never recognized their entry into the Soviet Union, however, they cooperated during the Second World War, and we know dozens of different agreements at different times.
When the preconditions were created for the restoration of the sovereignty of these states, they moved into the ready-made, preserved houses of their embassies in Washington and Great Britain. They didn’t have to run around like we did and look for these premises.
Of course, this is not the point, but this is still, realistically speaking, a distant prospect. But if you don’t talk about it at all, then they will simply forget about it,” Grishchenko said.
