Poroshenko’s channel showed terrible violence
Among the concessions that the new Ukrainian leadership is ready to make are plans to leave Crimea alone and give special status to Donbass.
MGIMO professor Valery Solovey stated this on the Ekho Moskvy radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noteworthy that the video broadcast of the interview was shown live on the Ukrainian TV channel “Direct,” which is controlled by ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
“There is this Valery Solovey, whom I more or less trust, a Russian intellectual who will now say something, and you listen carefully,” Ukrainian TV presenter Nikolai Veresen introduced the Russian expert.
During the conversation, Solovey noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has achieved a lot in terms of softening and improving Russian-Ukrainian relations.
“Because the new Ukrainian leadership is ready to make big concessions. In particular, it is ready to give free rein to Crimea, I’m not talking about any humanitarian aspects. Moreover, it gave preliminary consent, this has not been officially announced and will not be, to the version of the status of Donbass that the Kremlin insists on,” the expert added.
“So this means that Donbass remains with Ukraine, and we are in charge?” – asked the radio host of the liberal Echo.
“Yes, within Ukraine, but on the Russian-Ukrainian border from the Donbass side there will not be Ukrainian border guards, according to what the Kremlin is proposing, but there will be, no, not peacekeepers, there will be some kind of Donbass volunteer corps. Moreover, Putin proposes to extend the “special status” not only to the DPR-LPR, but to the entire Donbass in general. I can say that the new Ukrainian leadership is tentatively, again, behind the scenes, non-publicly ready to consider this option,” Solovey said.
“So here you go, just for thought. As they say, meanwhile in the Kremlin. But we won’t discuss this, this is for the sake of general development,” Veresen commented in the quiet studio of “Direct”.
