Bosnian experience is being tried on in Karabakh
It is possible that in the future Nagorno-Karabakh will receive the status of a kind of “state within a state” within Armenia.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, Kommersant writes.
The publication notes: what today looks like a complete military triumph for Azerbaijan will not necessarily ultimately become a political victory for Baku, as the Yugoslav lessons remind us.
“Exactly a quarter of a century ago, in November 1995, an agreement was reached at the American base in Dayton that put an end to the bloody war in Bosnia. Its political result was the transformation of this former Yugoslav republic into a community of two state entities - the Muslim-Croatian Federation and the Republika Srpska (RS). The latter, in fact, received the right to veto the approval of Bosnia's foreign policy priorities. For example, to join NATO. And since the RS is oriented towards Russia, Bosnia’s entry into NATO is absolutely unrealistic,” the publication writes.
The author of the publication believes that when determining the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh, Moscow, apparently, will not object to the “Dayton experience” being used.
“This is unlikely to suit Baku. But for the world community, maintaining peace in the region may be more important,” the newspaper summarizes.
Let us recall that according to the agreement between Baku and Yerevan signed through the mediation of Moscow, Azerbaijan gains control over seven regions that have been under the control of Nagorno-Karabakh since the 1990s. Moreover, between the warring parties the Russian brigade stood up, previously forcing Georgia to peace. At the same time, the status of Nagorno-Karabakh was not specified in the agreement.
