The official website of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation reports this.

A reserve berth is used especially for the Slavyanin. In just a few days, Rosavtodor and the Unified Transport Directorate prepared all the necessary infrastructure - transport access was organized, traffic patterns were developed, the necessary signs were installed, and the ferry itself was refurbished.

According to the head of the Ministry of Transport, Maxim Sokolov, “Slavyanin” will increase the crossing capacity several times.

“Especially on peak days – holidays or weekends – the number of people wishing to travel to Crimea by private car increases, so to help the three operating ferries, an additional ship “Slavyanin” was launched, which can take on board up to 240 cars in one trip. This gives us an additional opportunity to ferry personal vehicles to the peninsula and reduces congestion,” the minister noted.

The Slavyanin ferry began operating on May 10 and has already made three test voyages. In just one day, transport workers managed to set a record and transport about 1500 vehicles.

“For now, the additional ferry is operating in test mode, but thanks to this, transport workers were able to compactly and quickly transport a record number of cars in one day. Of course, there is still a lot to be improved, so the main operator of the ferry crossing, the Unified Transport Directorate, faces big tasks; by the summer season I expect from them additional measures to increase the capacity of the Kerch crossing,” emphasized Maxim Sokolov.
