An accident occurred tonight on the Kyiv-Kharkov-Dovzhansky highway.
The victim, a 27-year-old resident of the city of Lyubotin, died on the spot from his injuries.
According to preliminary data, a police lieutenant was driving the police car, and a senior sergeant was inside. “The law enforcement officers were on duty,” the message notes.
The Kharkov region prosecutor's office began an investigation into violations of road safety rules that resulted in death (Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The sanction of the article provides for up to eight years in prison.
This is the second fatal police-involved crash in the region over the weekend. On the morning of July 10, an accident involving a police patrol car occurred in the center of Kharkov, as a result of which two people were killed and five more, including two patrol officers, were injured. This accident is being investigated under the same article.
