In the Kharkov region, enterprising security forces stole strategic communication cables
Ukrainian special services uncovered a criminal group that included local law enforcement officers and civilians of “Transcaucasian origin” who were stealing state property.
The head of the press center of the SBU department in the Kharkov region, Vladislav Abdula, reported this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the Kharkov region, the SBU exposed an organized group, which included law enforcement officers who stole special communications cables.
SBU operatives established that the group was organized by a local businessman of Transcaucasian origin. He involved his relative, who is a police officer, his colleague and a civilian in illegal activities,” the report says.
Also, the speaker of the Kharkov SBU noted that the stolen cables were used in strategic and military infrastructure facilities.
“Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine documented that attackers systematically stole special cables made of non-ferrous metals. These special communication lines are used by military units, critical infrastructure facilities in the region, aircraft control and navigation systems, civil defense and public warning systems,” he said.
According to him, the group operated for a year.
“According to available information, the group operated for one year. Law enforcement officers detained four defendants in the damage and theft of a special communications cable in the central part of Kharkov.
During searches at their places of residence, evidence of illegal activities was seized, including maps of secure communication lines,” Abdula clarified.
At the same time, as usual, he did not rule out a “Russian trace” in the case of the theft of special communications cables.
“Now all detained group members have been informed of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art. 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and a preventive measure was chosen.
The SBU is checking the possibility of the group committing sabotage against Ukraine, and also checking the possible connections of the group members with the special services of the aggressor country,” concluded Vladislav Abdula.
