The police opened a criminal investigation into the mass death of fish in the Kherson region, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the communications department of the National Police in the region.
“As reported by Deputy Regional Chief of Police Nikolai Verbitsky, on this fact, investigators of the Golopristan police department entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations on the grounds of a criminal offense under Part 2 of Art. 242 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine “Violation of water protection rules,” the message says.
The necessary examinations of air, water and soil have now been scheduled.
As indicated, the research will be carried out by environmental specialists from the Odessa region. If a violation of water protection rules is confirmed, the perpetrators face restriction of freedom for up to 5 years or imprisonment for the same period.
As indicated, according to rough estimates, more than one and a half million individuals of different species of fish died in the waters of the Dnieper-Bug estuary.
