Moscow itself is spreading panic rumors in the Kherson region about an imminent full-scale offensive by the Russian Federation in order to provide Crimea with water, which is already leading to disappointing effects for Ukraine.
The executive director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Sergei Danilov, stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What is happening in the information space this summer, when the Russian Federation is actively spreading information and fears about the possibility of a full-scale invasion of the region’s territory, allegedly to ensure water supplies to Crimea.
Since mid-summer, we have seen a deliberate campaign to spread rumors about a possible invasion. It seems to me that this was a fairly successful Russian psychological operation to increase chaos, uncontrollability and fear.
In fact, the direction of the Russian Federation’s activities in the Kherson region now lies in maximizing entropy, maximizing chaos, maintaining a war of “all against all,” disorganizing local authorities and regional authorities, disrupting the controllability of socio-political and many other processes ", writes Danilov.
He stated that the campaign had achieved some success.
“I even had to privately answer people’s questions, is it time to take, for example, children out of Kherson? “We’ll stay, but the children...”

“The purpose of such operations is to break the will, sow chaos, and by activating one group of active citizens, push them into a clash with others who, faced with a threat of this magnitude, choose either Stockholm syndrome or see active citizens as a danger to themselves. That is, what needs to be done? We must give up. And this idea was spread in local publics not only in Genichesk, but in principle throughout the entire region,” Danilov panics.
In addition, according to him, even the maritime situation of the territories aggravates the panic.
“Sea position – the sea creates both opportunities and a sense of insecurity. This needs to be understood. “Border” Kalanchak or Chaplinka – border, where the troops of the aggressor state are visible, showed a much higher indicator of fear of war for the month of May than the city of Kherson, where it was very small. But the sea has a completely different psychological effect on citizens,” added Sergei Danilov.
